About 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The current-generation S-Class is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 engine delivering 382 horsepower and 391 lb.-ft. of torque; the S550 4MATIC, which features a state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive system; and the V12-powered S600, fitted with a 12-cylinder engine that makes 510 hp and 612 lb.-ft. of torque.
Two high-performance AMG models were added last year -- the S63 AMG, with a 518-hp V8 that produces 465 lb.-ft. of torque; and the S65 AMG, powered by a 604-hp V12 that makes 738 lb.-ft. of torque.
The S-Class features a number of technology and comfort enhancements for 2009. New S-Class models now come with gear shift paddles on the steering wheel, as well as new push-pull power window switches and a "Hold" convenience braking feature.
The S550 gets new standard equipment -- active ventilated and heated front seats, a wood-leather steering wheel, a power trunk lid and new seven twin-spoke 18-inch wheels.
The optional Distronic Plus system now includes Blind Spot Assist, which monitors both blind spots and warns the driver whenever a turn signal is activated with a vehicle in the blind spot. The latest radar-based Distronic Plus also incorporates Park Assist, which utilizes six radar sensors mounted behind the front and rear bumpers.
